Sonas is a therapeutic communication activity primarily for older people with dementia but also those with advanced Parkinson’s, some types of stroke and, occasionally, those who are experiencing extreme social isolation. It focuses on sensory stimulation in the belief that the senses are the gateways to communication, and is delivered through group and individual sessions.
The following staff will soon be Sonas trained:
Donna Scott, Joanna Robinson, Clare Doherty, Ann MacCombe, Ursula McGowan, Monica Donaghy, Patricia Mosgrove, Helen Crossan, Rosemary Pollock, Elma McClean, Laura Kelly, Danielle Kearney, Majella Duffy, Lisa McClay, Ann Hardy, Marie Healy, Shane May, Pauline Egan, Kevin Ryan, Tamara Gangureanu, Helen Shields, Ashling Newman, Samantha Chapman, Bianca Zota, Madeline Duggan, Bridget Lyons, Angela O'Donohue, Malgorzata Cieslkowska and Liam Deeney.
Training commenced in May 2012 and is proving to be very enjoyable for the staff and is expected to finish mid July 2012.
